So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. - 1 Corinthians 15:58 (NLT)

Dear loved ones,

Thank you for your encouragement and for the sacrifices you make to love our family through your prayers and partnership.

We are celebrating with the Gumawana people of Papua New Guinea (PNG) who dedicated the New Testament in their language this month. Praise God with us! We also celebrated as a community, on

Sunday, all the Scripture portions produced by SIL translation teams in Papua New Guinea this last year. God truly is faithful!
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." – Ephesians 6:12 (NIV)

Thank you for standing with us in prayer and lifting us to the Father of heaven who has conquered death and has won the victory over Satan and the spiritual forces of evil. We have sensed your prayers in the last few months as we have felt spiritual oppression. Thank God we are covered by the blood of Christ and no weapon formed against us will prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
Yesterday we experienced a 7.2 magnitude earthquake and while our house and water tanks shook quite a bit, we are safe and sound. The Construction and Maintenance guys here on center came to try to fix our water tanks (which are leaking quite a bit due to damage from the earthquake) and they said they can’t fix them and therefore we need to buy new ones. Rain water is stored in those tanks and we rely on that water for drinking, washing clothes, bathing, etc. Please pray as we try to replace our tanks.
This month, Kurt has been working closely with the Aitape West Translation Project (AWTP) when their network attached storage experienced a catastrophic failure. At that exact time we were also having issues with our internet connection here in Ukarumpa so helping them remotely was a real challenge. Even through those difficulties he was able to eventually connect to their network (see note below on how the internet traffic flows), repair the disk array and restore all the data and services from a backup device that was on-site. We thank God for helping us to make that happen!
O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Last month we had the privilege of attending SIL Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) biennial branch conference. This included a time of spiritual retreat and God was faithful in allowing us to feel renewed. Meanwhile Lukas and Matthias attended a Vacation Bible School (VBS) lead by a team that came from the United States and they loved it.
Kurt and I (Johanna) are partly assigned to this project and we thank God for this opportunity to contribute in this small way in helping bring the Word of God to the people of PNG.
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” - Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT)

Dear Loved Ones,

Thank you for your continued encouragement for our family and ministry as we live and serve in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

This year is going quickly and we have been busy. Kurt has recently been working with PNG DataCo (the operators of the national telecom transmission network) to bring fiber optic cable from the nearby town of Kainantu to Aiyura valley. Our datacentre here in Ukarumpa will host the distribution hub for internet services to other valley communities and entities, such as Aiyura National High School, a national agricultural institute and the local level government offices.
I (Johanna) have been helping in Grade 2 (Matthias’s class) two times a week which I very much enjoy. Lukas continues to like playing the baritone and he is learning to give speeches in Grade 5. Kassia, Grade 8, is very busy in school and this term she is playing soccer and loving it!
Please let us know how we can pray for YOU. If you would, please specifically pray for the health of our family. We’ve had lots of colds in the last couple of months. I have shingles and my immune system is weak. However we are very thankful for our clinic here and the doctor that prescribed antivirals that are already working.
Praise God that Kurt's father, Ron, and step-mom, Jane, were able to visit, encourage and distribute New Testaments to the Carapana community of South Eastern Colombia, last week. The Ron and Lois Metzger family worked with the Carapana for many years in a translation project and have not been able to visit since 1993 because of subversives in the area.
